The Public Works Department’s mission is to manage, direct and provide technical support and administration for city and utility construction projects, mapping, snow removal, weed cutting, refuse and recycling; conduct studies of infrastructure, prepare grant applications, file reports with governmental agencies, and provide support to committees and commissions; respond to inquiries from citizens, realtors, contractors and other departments.
The City of Platteville annual spring clean up will be held on Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19, 2015, with pick up the same day as your normal refuse collection. Items must be placed neatly at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the day of pick up. This service is provided to one and two family dwellings only.
Specific items that WILL NOT be picked up include batteries & tires, appliances including microwaves, refuse from major construction and remodeling projects, as well as oil, anti-freeze, insecticides, and hazardous chemicals.
Electronics (computers, printers, computer monitors, computer mouse, keyboards, and all accessories, televisions, DVD players, VCR’s, DVR’s, fax machines and cell phones) WILL NOT be picked up. If you need to dispose of an electronic item, please contact Faherty Recycling at 608-348-9586 for additional information.
All items must be stacked neatly and be in a pile no larger than 10’ x 4’ x 4’. Scrap metal should be stacked neatly separate from other refuse. Scrap metal and yard waste does not count toward the maximum size limit.
Garden and yard waste will be included in the spring clean up and will be picked up by City crews on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of clean up week only. Please bag separately from weekly garbage and the $1.00 bags are not required during this special pick up only.

City of Platteville Notice to Destroy Noxious Weeds | Apr 28, 2015
Wisconsin Statutes 66.0407 and City Ordinance 5.01 require that all persons who own, occupy or control land within the City of Platteville are required to destroy all weeds on such lands. “Noxious weed” means Canada Thistle, leafy spurge, field bindweed (creeping jenny), whorled milkweed, bull thistle, common ragweed, giant ragweed, wild parsnip, nettles, burdock, wild hemp (marijuana), poison ivy, poison oak, jimsonweed, common cocklebur, black nightshade and any other weed the Common Council declares to be noxious within its boundaries. City of Platteville Hillside and Greenwood Cemeteries Spring Clean-up A general clean-up of Hillside and Greenwood Cemeteries will begin on Monday, March 30, 2015 (weather permitting). Please remove any flowers or decorations you wish to save by March 29th. During clean-up, cemetery personnel will discard any flowers or decorations remaining after March 30, 2015. Spring Leaf Pickup
The City of Platteville Street Department will have the leaf machine in operation for the Spring pick-up beginning on Monday, March 23, 2015 (weather permitting) until Friday, May 1, 2015.
Any yard waste accumulated after that date will need to be placed in City of Platteville dollar bags. Residents should rake leaves to the curb and NOT in the gutter. Any questions, please contact the City of Platteville Street Department at 9608) 348-8828.

City of Platteville residents are reminded of the schedule for yard waste & brush pickup.
Yard Waste: Yard rakings and grass clippings MUST be in ” City of Platteville” $1.00 bags and placed curbside for pick up on Thursdays.
Brush: Brush will be picked up the first week and third week beginning on Monday of each month.
