 Platteville Annual Historic Encampment

Platteville's Annual Historic Encampment is held in Platteville's Moundview Park. This exciting event coincides with Platteville's "Dairy Days" festival.  The Historic Encampment is proud to offer a quality educational experience to Tri-State area schools and communities.  Featured living history groups will include Fort La Jonquiere - A French Marine Company, The Old Lead Region Historical Society, 1771 Colonial Alliance and 1812 Prairie du Chien Militia.

Throughout individual and group camps, visitors will enjoy presentations on military and domestic life, Indian lifeways, clothing of the times, and more, while learning how people from diverse cultures co-existed on the frontier.  Artisans will demonstrate numerous skills, including flintknapping, silversmithing, candlemaking, spinning and dyeing, fingerweaving, blacksmithing, white metalwork, woodworking, cooperage and more.  Old-time music, food kettle korn, and merchants' wares are available throughout the Encampment.

Platteville's Mining and Rollo Jamison Museums will present exhibits and talks about early lead mining in Southwestern Wisconsin, along with an opportunity to participate in 19th Century children's and parlor games.
