Summer Art Classes and Activities
There are a number of classes and activities being scheduled by Rountree Gallery throughout the summer. Nancy Collins of Platteville will be offering a series of “Creation Station Workshops for Children” on the second Wednesday of each month. Children ages 4 -13 are encouraged to bring their creativity to each different session scheduled on June 9, July 14, August 11 from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
During the month of June, Lisa Humke of Dodgeville will be offering “Fun, Funky, Watercolor Jewelry” to students age middle school – adult. Come create a unique piece during one of two sessions scheduled: Friday, June 25 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. or Saturday, June 26 from 10:00-1:00.
In conjunction with her exhibit at Rountree Gallery, Stephanie Failmezger of Peosta will be offering “Polymer Clay Cane Techniques” for making beads, crafts, and artwork on Sunday, June 13 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. for students age 13 to adult. (See example on left). On Saturday, June 19 from 10:00-4:00, Janet Checker of Galena will be offering “Basic Oil Painting” to beginning students age 16 to adult. And also for June, Nancy Collins of Platteville will lead students age 12 to adult in creating an “Indoor Decorative Labyrinth” on Sunday, June 27 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
During the month of July, Rountree Gallery offers free art activities at Heritage Day on July 4 at the Platteville Museum complex and at Party in the Park on July 22 at Platteville City Park from 5-7 p.m. Also, in conjunction with their exhibit “From Lathes and Lenses: A Celebration of Woodturning & Photography” on display at Rountree Gallery from June 30 – July 25, the following clubs are offering free activities: The Harry Nohr Woodturners Club will be operating two woodturning lathes and demonstrating woodturning techniques during Heritage Day festivities on July 4 at the Platteville Museum complex. Members will be turning wooden tops to give to youngsters, and also demonstrating bowl turning techniques. There will be experienced wood turners on hand to answer questions, as well. The Southwest Wisconsin Photography Club (SWPC) invites you to join them for an informal discussion about photography and SWPC, on Saturday, July 24 from 1:00-3:30 at Rountree Gallery. A number of photographers will share their favorite images along with the techniques used to make them. There will be ample time for questions and discussions. Light refreshments will be offered.
During the month of August, Janet Checker of Galena will be offering two classes. On Saturday, August 7 from 10:00-4:00 students can create “Portrait Painting from Photographs” in their choice of medium. On Saturday, August 14 Janet will build upon basic skills in “Advanced Oil Painting” from 10:00-4:00. Both classes will include brief demonstrations and plenty of personal guidance. Carol Getman of Mineral Point and Nancy Collins of Platteville team up to offer “Find Your Way Home” on Sunday, August 22 from 12:00-4:00. Students, age middle school to adult, will use a variety of techniques to create altered art book structures. During August, Nancy Collins will also be offering “Papermaking: Recycle, Reclaim, Repurpose” on Sunday, August 8 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. for students age 8 to adult. Also Nancy will lead students in creating “Artist’s Blocks,”3-D artwork to break out of their artist’s block on Sunday, August 15 from 12:00-4:00 p.m.
