Common Council Seeks Applicants to Fill Vacant District 3 Seat

PLATTEVILLE, WI (April, 19 2023) – The Common Council is seeking applicants to fill the District 3 Alderperson seat vacated by Barbara Daus, who resigned from the position on Tuesday, April 17 in order to take the oath of office for the position of Alderperson District 2.  Daus is now realigned after the redistricting process, a process by which electoral district boundaries are redrawn periodically to adjust for shifts in population and to ensure proper representation for all potential voters in a given geographic area.

Former District 2 Alderperson, Eileen Nickels did not seek re-election, and has retired from the Common Council after 27 years of service.

The successful applicant will serve the remainder of the District 3 term, which expires in April 2024. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and reside within the District 3 boundaries, which can be found here. To apply, interested individuals should submit a one-page letter of interest answering the following questions to cityclerk@platteville.org by Friday, May 12, 2023:

  • Describe your qualifications for serving on the Common Council,
  • Describe what you like about Platteville,
  • Describe the area/improvements you would focus on if appointed, and
  • Describe what characteristics you believe are important to be an effective member of the Common Council.

Interviews with the Common Council will be held the evening of Tuesday, May 16.  Candidates are invited to make a five-minute presentation for the interview, followed by answering 5-10 minutes of questions from the Council.  Appointment by the Council and new member swearing-in is planned for Tuesday, May 23, with new member orientation after the Tuesday, June 13 Council meeting.
