Record Requests

Public Record Requests may be made in person (during business hours), online, or by phone.

*If this is a Background Check for Employment, a Signed Authorization from the Applicant is required.  You may attach it to your request at the end of the Record Request webform.

Public Record requests will be reviewed and responded to within a reasonable time, usually not exceeding 10 business days. If you do not wish the record mailed, it is your responsibility to facilitate receiving the response by making arrangements with a secretary Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4: 30pm. If the Platteville Police Department is releasing a record that implicates a person’s privacy or reputational interest, the person will be given 10 days to appeal the department’s decision to release the record. You will be notified of this delay.

If the request is not permissible under the Open Records law, it will be denied.  Reports will be redacted if required by law.

Denials and Partial Denials: Any information redacted from this report pertains to the Department of Transportation records, medical treatment conditions which are protected under HIPPA, juvenile records, and/or privacy concerns where the public interest in disclosing such information is outweighed by the public interest in maintaining confidentiality of such information. Denial is subject to review in an action for mandamus under Wis. Stat. § 19.37(1) or by application to district attorney or Attorney General.

Crash Reports
The Platteville Police Department does not release state reportable crash reports directly.  These may be requested at CrashDocs - powered by CarFax (reports 1/1/2018 to current) or you may also get them at WI DOT Crash Report Requests (for all crash dates).
