Downtown Buildings

Platteville serves as the retail and service hub for Southwest Wisconsin and is home to several national retailers, including Walmart, Menards, Aldi and Ashley Furniture.  Platteville is poised for retail growth with a trade area of over 77,475.  The Platteville Industrial Development Corporation or city staff can assist with retail opportunities along the Business Highway 151 Corridor.  Click to view the Platteville Marketing Guide and Platteville Trade Area Research information.  

Platteville also has a thriving downtown. The owners of two new Main Street businesses arrived in town as students at UW-Platteville, with majors ranging from forensic science to biology. Now they are pursuing their own enterprises and hoping to strengthen the community-campus connection by drawing students to Platteville’s historic downtown.

City Manager Karen Kurt was surprised when she learned about the business background of her two next door neighbors – Michael Kliebenstein and Jaron Boldt. “I knew where they worked, but over time I learned that these businesses had been in their respective families for generations. That’s unusual - it’s tough to successfully make that many transitions.”
