She earned her Enrolled Agent certification to practice before the IRS in 2004. Barb and her husband purchased H&R Block in 1994. They have a great team of 13 staff members. Barb has a BS in Social Welfare from UW-Milwaukee and moved to Platteville in 1980 to earn MS from UW-Platteville in Guidance and Counseling. During that time, she was working 3 years in Residence Life and 13 years in the Financial Aid Office. She also served on the UW-Platteville Academic Staff Senate.

Barb has served on the Boards of Wisconsin Public Radio Association, Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin, Badgerland Council and Girls Scouts of Illinois Green Hills Council. She is a Life Time Girl Scout. In addition, she is also a member of the Main Street Program Board, Platteville Optimist Club and Platteville Rotary Club.

Platteville has been her home for 37 years. Barb and her husband, John C. Adams have one son Dr. Greg Adams, DVM. Greg and his wife, Brittany have made their home in Cuba City WI. Barb has two step-daughters Ellen and Beth/Jim Ostrem and 5 step-grandchildren. Her goal is to bring the community and the city together to accomplish the best development, programs and other activities that will enhance our community.
