Get a Fright Underground! Haunted Mine Tours Return to Platteville!
PLATTEVILLE, Wis., October 10, 2025 — Looking for Halloween plans that will scare you right into the ground? Then get ready to head 50 feet underground for a spooky adventure like no other! The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums are once again hosting their Haunted Mine Tours on Saturday, October 25, from 5 to 9 p.m. These candle- and lantern-lit tours depart every 30 minutes.
This isn’t your average haunted house — it’s a real 1845 lead mine, and the tales you’ll hear are based on true historical events, eerie folklore, and the unexplainable encounters miners swore were real. Trust us, history has never been this chilling — or this fun! Immigrant miners from Cornwall brought more than just their picks and shovels — they brought stories of strange underground creatures called tommyknockers. Mischievous and mysterious, these dwarf-like spirits were said to steal tools, blow out lanterns, and pester miners deep in the dark. One poor soul named Eddie never figured out why he was their favorite target — until he heard a voice whisper from the shadows: “Eddie, I want my five dollars!”
