The City of Platteville is seeking a motivated and civic-minded student to serve as the City Manager Intern for the Spring 2026 semester. This unpaid, for-credit internship is designed for a UW-Platteville student interested in gaining hands-on experience in local government operations, policy development, and community engagement.

 

Position Highlights:

Interns will work directly with the City Manager and staff across departments on such projects as:

Lead community discussions on the future disposition of the old fire facility.

Research cost analysis solutions for fleet management and printing production.

Review and propose policy changes.

Contribute to long-term forecasting for a solvent street reconstruction program.

Support communications, administrative tasks, and special projects.

 

Timeline:

Application Deadline: December 1, 2025

Application Review: December 1st-5th, 2025

Interviews: December 8th-12th, 2025

Selection Notification: December 19, 2025

Internship Start Date: January 2026 (Spring Semester at UW-Platteville)

 

Qualifications:

  1. Enrollment in a degree program at UW-Platteville, preferably in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. Strong academic standing and interest in municipal government and public service.
  3. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  4. Professionalism and initiative.
  5. Posess the knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in the Position Description.
