Values and Strategic Plan
Values and Strategic Planning
The City of Platteville is committed to a thoughtful and engaged planning process that supports both current community priorities and long-term aspirations. Rather than viewing planning as a one-time event, the City sees it as an ongoing, annual, adaptive process that responds to evolving needs and opportunities, and allows for reflection and consideration in building annual operating and capital improvement budgets.
In 2020, Platteville developed a strategic plan to guide initiatives through 2023. That process included a review of statewide plans, community surveys, collaborative workshops, and input from City staff and the Common Council. It also built on the strengths identified in previous planning efforts and helped clarify shared goals for the near term. Looking ahead, the City will undertake a comprehensive planning effort during 2025–2026. This planning will also include Strategic Planning, Comprehensive Parks Planning, and Neighborhood Planning for the Trail View Development project. These initiatives will offer an opportunity to build upon our strategic foundations while engaging the community in shaping Platteville’s future. This planning process will seek to strike a balance between addressing today’s challenges and advancing long-term goals for a safe, inviting, and thriving community.
Our core community value success factors remain:
- Safe, Welcoming, and Engaged Community
- Thoughtful Development and Prosperous Economy
- Quality Infrastructure, Amenities, and Services
