City of Platteville Continues to Monitor COVID-19

PLATTEVILLE, WI (March 12, 2020) – The City of Platteville values the health and safety of all residents, visitors and staff.  In response to the recent outbreak of the COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus, the City of Platteville has been closely tracking and monitoring information and events regionally and globally.  The City is paying careful attention to updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO)Wisconsin Department of Health ServicesGrant County Health Department, as well as the actions and communications of research and education networks across the country.

With confirmed cases in Wisconsin, the City is reviewing precautionary measures.  City staff has and will continue to meet and work with key partners to provide operations and support considering pandemic concerns.  The City of Platteville is also working with key partners to ensure City operations and tools are in place to maintain functionality and continue to support needs, without risking the safety of employees.

Remind your family, co-workers and community members to take precautions to protect their health and safety against the COVID-19 virus and other illnesses, such as Influenza and the common cold.  Please remember to practice good hygiene, and if you feel ill, take all necessary steps to protect your health and prevent exposure to others.

Good hygiene practices

  • Avoid contact with sick people. 
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands. 
  • Clean your hands often by washing them with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60%–95% alcohol. Soap and water should be used if hands are visibly dirty. 
  • It is especially important to clean hands after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. 

City staff who are sick or have members of their family experiencing forms of illness have been directed to stay home from work.  The City is encouraging business owners, residents and visitors of Platteville to contact your health care professional if you are experiencing respiratory problems or complications from illness.  If you are traveling over spring break, please review travel advisories for overseas and domestic travel.  The CDC is advising anyone with a compromised immune system to reschedule any cruise vacations and avoid traveling on cruises currently.
