A Good Day for Platteville!
Madison, WI - Senator Howard Marklein released the following statement following the Joint Committee on Finance action on July 1, 2025.
"Tuesday was a good day for Platteville due to Joint Finance Committee's action on the state budget. We voted on a number of items that will directly benefit Southwestern Wisconsin and the Platteville region."
The 2025-27 Wisconsin State Budget will include a $2 million grant to Southwest Health to help with the construction of a new childcare facility. This initiative was championed by Senator Marklein after hearing from parents and community leaders about the lack of childcare options in the region. Southwest Health has worked with Southwest Technical College, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Platteville school district, the City ofPlatteville, and a number of important employers in the area on this project.
"I am so happy that the state budget will include a grant to Southwest Health to build their new childcare center. This will address a critical need for our community in Southwestern Wisconsin. This project will make a significant difference for families all over the Platteville region and create dozens of new slots. I am proud to have fought for this funding in the state budget and cannot wait to see the positive effect it will have on our region."
The budget will also include two projects on the UW-Platteville campus as part of the state's capital budget. The school will receive funding to turn Karrmaan Library into a student success center, and planning dollars to begin transitioning Ottensman Hall from an aging engineering building to a vibrant space capable of meeting the demands of students from a variety of majors.
"We also approved funding for two new buildings on the campus of UW-Platteville. These are important projects that Chancellor Tammy Evetovich and I have talked about on my visits to campus. I was glad to get these projects through the Joint Committee on Finance."
"I am very proud of the work that the Joint Finance Committee did today for Platteville and the surrounding area."
