Help Preserve Platteville History – Please Share Your Historic Photographs!

Platteville is celebrating 200 years in 2027.  As part of the celebration, we are preparing a commemorative coffee-table style book which will be available in early 2027.  All photos will be depicted in black and white. 

Do you have old photographs of Platteville tucked away in albums, boxes or family collections?  As part of the upcoming Platteville Bicentennial Book, we are collecting historic photographs that tell the story of our community.  We are looking for images that capture every aspect and era of Platteville’s history, including: families and family gatherings, homes and neighborhoods, businesses and downtown scenes, schools and student life, churches and religious organizations, civic organizations, clubs and community groups, farms and rural life, parades, celebrations, sporting events and community activities, historic buildings, streets and landmarks.

When submitting your photos, please include:

• a caption describing what the photograph shows;
• the approximate date the photograph was taken (if known);
• the location where it was taken;
• the names of the people pictures (or as many as you can identify) and
• the name of the photographer, if known.

For the best reproduction in the book, we prefer high-quality JPEG images.  However, don’t let an older or lower-quality image keep you from sharing it.  If a photograph is historically significant or visually compelling, we’ll work with you to enhance it for publication whenever possible.

Every photograph has a story to tell.  By sharing your family’s collections, you are helping preserve the people, places and events that have shaped Platteville over the past two centuries.  Please share this post with family and friends.  Together, we can create a lasting visual history of our community for future generations!
