City Hall Updates & Overview

The City of Platteville is working with its partners at the county, state and federal levels to monitor the outbreak of the novel or new coronavirus known as COVID-19.  The City will continue to take steps to keep residents, staff and visitors to City buildings healthy, safe and informed.

City Board, Commission, and Committee meetings will take place via Zoom, and include an in-person option if there is an absolute need.  Please note that the Tuesday, January 26 Common Council meeting will be a virtual meeting via the video conferencing app, Zoom.  While the council chambers will be open for the public to attend and view the virtual meeting, it is discouraged to attend in person.  Below you will find the meeting information:

If you have problems connecting to the meeting using Zoom meetings on your computer or smart phone, we recommend that you dial in using one of the numbers above.  This will be the fastest and most reliable way to hear what is happening in the meeting.

City Hall has re-opened to the public, with the exception of the Finance office.  For the protection of our patrons and staff from COVID-19, the Finance office is currently closed to visitors.  Please place Property Tax and Water/Sewer payments in the drop box.  To contact the Finance office please utilize the numbers listed below:

Taxes, dog licenses and A/P: (608) 348-9741 ext. 2228
Water/Sewer: (608) 348-1831
All other inquiries: (608) 348-1829

Even though City Hall is now open, electronic/drop box/mail-in payments, email, phone and zoom meetings are still encouraged methods for City business.

The far right door at the front entrance of City Hall and door N5 off West Mineral Street will be unlocked.  Once in the building, it is strongly encouraged that visitors utilize the sanitation station, which will have sanitizer, gloves, and masks.  It is highly recommended that visitors wear a mask or face covering when visiting City Hall.

Visitors and in-person meeting attendees will be required to fill out a contact tracing attendance sheet. This will assist the Grant County Health Department with subsequent contact tracing in the event that it becomes necessary.

For any cash transactions, customers will be asked to place cash on the counter rather than directly into an employee’s hand, and staff will use the same practice when providing change back to customers.  Employees will advise visitors to maintain physical distancing for the duration of their visit.

The City will facilitate restricting unnecessary physical contact between staff and visitors by utilizing signage, floor markings and meeting room layout that maintains physical distancing with a minimum of six-foot distance between individuals.  Signage at entrances to City Hall remind employees and visitors that anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should stay at home and to follow the appropriate social distancing guidelines and recommendations.

All City departments will continue to provide essential services to residents while limiting in-person interaction in efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  Most business can be conducted electronically through the City website at www.platteville.org, or by phone (608) 348-9741.  Please contact the respective departments or review the Forms, Permits and Applications page.  See below for frequently contacted departments:

Community Development, Building Permits and Inspection:  (608) 348-9741 ext. 2235
Parks & Recreation/Public Works: (608) 348-9741 ext. 2238
Police Department (non-emergency) (608) 348-2313
Water Utility Payments: (608) 348-9741 ext. 2224
Voting, Licensing and General Information: (608) 348-9741 ext. 2232

A drop box is also available outside City Hall to drop off utility payments, dog license applications, etc.  You may also choose to make your Water/Sewer payment online or by phone via Payment Service Network (PSN).  Regular office access will resume Monday, April 6, subject to county, state, and national recommendations.

The Police Department will continue providing police service 24 hours per day, however the front lobby will be closed. Complainants are to contact our department through the non-emergency number (608) 348-2313, rather than reporting in person.  Those who must report in person should use the white call box in the front vestibule to speak with a telecommunicator.

Starting July 28, the Platteville Public Library will be open for a limited number of visitors each day. You will be able to look for books and other library materials, pick up your holds in person, and use library computers. Tables, chairs, meeting spaces, toys, and daily newspapers will not be available in this phase. However, children’s kits and weekly area newspapers will be available for checkout, and wifi is available outside the building.  Please visit http://plattevillepubliclibrary.org/phase2/ for specific details.

The Platteville Senior Center is closed to the public until further notice.  While the congregate meal service at all senior dining sites in Grant County is suspended, Meals on Wheels will be delivered as usual.  For more information regarding the Meals on Wheels Program, or to sign up, please contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at (608) 723-6113.

The City of Platteville appreciates your compliance and patience during this unprecedented time.

Prevention
We continue to stress the importance of preventing the spread of infection and share the following information being circulated by healthcare officials:

  • Wear a mask or face covering
  • Avoid getting closer than six feet to anyone coughing or sneezing;
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.  If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer that has 60-95% alcohol. This is especially important after going to the restroom, before eating, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or your elbow if you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash, and then wash your hands;
  • Stay home if you are sick;
  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces regularly;
  • Monitor state and federal travel advisories and follow their recommendations.
