First Donation to New Event Center a Proactive One

When Gregg Johnson, owner of Novus Glass – Platteville, read the story about the effort to replace Art Hall at Legion Park (Platteville), he knew he had to be involved.

Johnson explained, “As I learned about this initiative, I was glad to see this as a community project – a community build, so to speak.  What a great idea – have the community come together to fund this, rather than to have the municipality borrow money to build it, adding that expenses to our taxes.  This facility is used by so many – and the new event center will be used even more.”

Johnson and his wife, LuAnn, took a proactive approach – simply calling committee chair Sheri Engelke and asking, “Where do we send our money?”  And, they did just that, sending the 1st monies for the facility - $5000.

Engelke noted, “Gregg grew up in the area, graduating from Belmont High School.  He started his glass repair and replacement business in 1993. He has been in his current facility, 455 Business Highway 151, since 2002.  Gregg believes in community.  He believes that great things can and do happen when people work together.  Our committee is truly appreciative of this investment by Gregg and LuAnn.  It speaks volumes about their belief in the need and their willingness to step forward early, without being asked.  We truly appreciate their support!”

Those wishing to be a part of this community-based initiative may send checks to Inspiring Community, Inc. PO Box 503, Platteville, WI 53818 and note “Event Center” on memo line.   Questions and/or requests for presentations should be directed to Vince Graney, Legion Park Event Center fundraising leader (732-0327) or Sheri Engelke, LPEC committee chair (642-5485).
