Housing Application Process

To file an application with the Housing Authority of the City of Platteville to receive housing assistance, an interested individual/family must first contact the Housing Authority to determine if the waiting list for the program is open and accepting applications from the general public.

If the waiting list is open, a family/individual will begin the application process. Please note that while the waiting list is open, persons with disabilities may contact the Housing Authority to receive an application form through the mail or make alternate arrangements to complete the application form.

All applicants are required to notify the Platteville Housing Authority in writing of changes in family composition, income, address, and/or claimed preference status. Applicants are also required to respond, in writing, to periodic requests from the Housing Authority to update information on their application or to determine their continued interest in receiving housing assistance. An applicant’s failure to provide such information or respond to Housing Authority mailings will result in the applicant being removed from the waiting list.

Once an applicant’s application form nears the top of the waiting list, the Platteville Housing Authority will contact the individual/family for an eligibility interview and begin the process of determining if the household meets HUD and Housing Authority established eligibility criteria.

After the verification process has been completed, the Platteville Housing Authority will make a final determination of program eligibility. The decision is based on information provided by the individual/family, the verifications that are completed by the Housing Authority and the applicant screening process as set forth within the Platteville Housing Authority’s administrative policies. The Housing Authority administrative plan can be viewed at the Platteville Public Library, the City Clerk's office or the Housing Authority office. Please note, the Platteville Housing Authority is accepting all in-person inquiries by appointment only. Please call or email to schedule a time to review the administrative plan and ask any questions.

If all eligibility requirements have not been met and/or all information that was provided to the Housing Authority does not verify accurate and/or current, then an applicant is determined to be ineligible to receive assisted housing. The Housing Authority will not issue a voucher to the denied individual/family for rental assistance. If the Housing Authority denies admission to an applicant, the applicant is provided with an opportunity to request an informational review in accordance with established hearing procedures that are set forth within the Housing Authority administrative policies.
