2027 Full Revaluation

The 2026 assessment cycle is complete. The City of Platteville and Associated Appraisal Consultants, Inc. (AAC) are providing additional information and clarification regarding the citywide property revaluation currently underway for the 2027 assessment year.

The City has contracted with AAC, the City's statutory assessor, to conduct a comprehensive review of all taxable properties within the municipality. The purpose of this revaluation is to ensure that property assessments reflect current market conditions and that assessments are fair and equitable among all property owners.

A previous letter stated that only exterior reviews would be conducted for most properties. We would like to clarify that the revaluation process will also include requests for interior inspections as part of the City's comprehensive property review program. Interior inspections allow assessors to verify property characteristics, quality, condition, and improvements that may not be observable from the exterior. These factors can significantly impact market value and help ensure assessments are based on the most accurate and current property information available. We apologize for any confusion the prior letter may have caused.

The interior review is typically brief and focused solely on information relevant to the assessment process. Assessors have no interest in housekeeping, furnishings, or personal belongings. Property owners and occupants are encouraged to cooperate with the inspection process so assessments can be completed as accurately and uniformly as possible.

AAC staff will carry City-issued authorization, company photo identification, and will travel in clearly marked vehicles displaying the Associated Appraisal Consultants name. If no one is available when an assessor visits a property, a door hanger will be left with instructions for arranging an inspection appointment. Owners of rental properties are encouraged to notify tenants that assessment staff may be visiting the property during the review process.

A revaluation does not increase the total amount of property taxes collected by the City. Rather, it updates property values to reflect current market conditions. Individual property assessments may increase, decrease, or remain relatively unchanged depending on how each property's value changes relative to other properties within the community.
