City of Platteville Shares Information on 2027 Property Revaluation

PLATTEVILLE, WI (August 31, 2026) – The City of Platteville is sharing additional information with residents regarding the 2027 property revaluation.

The City has contracted with Associated Appraisal Consultants, Inc. to complete a revaluation of all taxable property within the City for the 2027 assessment year. Wisconsin law requires municipalities to periodically revalue property to ensure assessments reflect full market value and are distributed fairly and equitably among property owners.

As part of this process, Associated Appraisal staff will conduct exterior reviews and request brief interior inspections of residential, commercial, and other taxable properties throughout the City. Interior inspections allow assessors to verify property characteristics, quality, condition, and improvements that may not be observable from the exterior. These reviews will begin in the coming weeks. A thorough review of each property is necessary to ensure accurate and equitable assessments. Property owners are encouraged to cooperate with the inspection process, as accurate and up-to-date property information helps ensure fair and equitable assessments for all taxpayers.

Associated Appraisal staff will carry a City-issued letter of introduction, photo identification and will travel in marked vehicles displaying the Associated Appraisal company name. If no one is available when a property is visited, a door hanger will be left with property-specific instructions for scheduling an interior review. Owners of rental properties are encouraged to inform their tenants that assessors will be visiting the property.

A revaluation does not increase the total amount of property taxes collected by the City. Rather, it updates property values to reflect current market conditions. An individual property owner's share of the total tax levy may increase, decrease, or remain relatively unchanged depending on how their property's value changes relative to other properties within the City.

Property owners will receive a Notice of Assessment once the revaluation process is complete and will have an opportunity to discuss their assessment during Open Book. Property owners may also appeal to the Board of Review.

The City appreciates residents' patience and cooperation as this state-required process is completed.
