2024 Spring Clean-Up

Please note that the City-wide Annual Spring Clean-Up is being held early again this year!  The clean-up has been moved to allow for another event to take place, the City Swap. The City Swap is an event designed to help reduce items sent to the landfill, and to help others in our community.  The 4th Annual City Swap will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024.  Watch for more details coming soon.

The City of Platteville annual Spring Clean-Up will be held on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9, 2024, with pick up the same day as your normal refuse collection. Items must be placed neatly at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the day of pick up. This service is provided to one and two-family dwellings in the City of Platteville only. All items must be stacked neatly and be in a pile no larger than 10’ x 4’ x 4’. Scrap metal should be stacked neatly separate from other refuse.  Scrap metal and yard waste does not count toward the maximum size limit.

Specific items that will not be picked up include: batteries and tires, appliances including microwaves, refuse from major construction and remodeling projects, oil, anti-freeze, insecticides, and hazardous chemicals. Boy Scout Troop 82 will collect appliances for a donation. Please call (608) 778-0707 and leave a message to arrange appliance pick up. Electronics (computers, printers, computer monitors, computer mouse, keyboards, and all accessories, televisions, DVD players, VCR’s, DVR’s, fax machines and cell phones) will not be picked up. If you need to dispose of an electronic item, please contact Faherty Recycling at (608) 348-9586 for additional information.

Garden and yard waste is included in the Spring Clean-Up. Please have these items to curbside by Sunday evening and placed separately from weekly garbage. City $1.00 bags are not required during this special pick up only. BRUSH/LIMB DISPOSAL
The City of Platteville picks up brush and limbs the week of the first and third Monday of the month from spring through fall. Please have your brush/limbs out early as once the chipper has cycled, it will not return until the next scheduled week.

This service is limited to limbs up to 12 inches in diameter and a length that requires no more than two people to pull it from the curb to the chipper. Brush and limbs must be placed at the curb with the cut end toward the curb and stacked in a neat and orderly fashion.

YARD WASTE DISPOSAL
Yard waste is to be placed in the $1.00 Platteville bags and laid at the curb for pick-up on Thursdays starting in the spring. Bags can be purchased in the Finance Office at City Hall, Hermsen Hardware and Piggly Wiggly. 

CEMETERY CLEAN UP
A general clean-up of Hillside and Greenwood Cemeteries will begin on Monday, April 1, 2024. Please remove any flowers or decorations you wish to save by Sunday, March 31, 2024. During clean-up, cemetery personnel will discard any flowers or decorations remaining after March 31, 2024. Flowers and decorations may again be placed after Friday, April 5, 2024.

Please be reminded that flowers and decorations should be placed on either end of the headstone and not in front of or behind. This allows equipment access for digging future graves. All Cemetery rules will be enforced during the 2024 Season.
